Meet Bankz. He's 1 and carving the streets!
We spoke to Bankz's parents to learn a bit more about his journey with the Ookkie. Here's what they had to say.
What was your reason for getting an Ookkie?
We found out about Ookkie through Instagram - it just popped up as an ad one day while I was pregnant and we decided then that we would eventually get one for our babe. I liked that the Ookkie gives kids a sense of independence by allowing them to hold a handle instead of relying on you for their balance. I also liked that the parent handle still allowed you to be apart of the process by allowing you to choose the direction and speed.
Describe the learning experience on the Ookkie for us.
We brought Bankz his Ookkie just when he was 7mths old - it was meant to be a Christmas present but we couldn’t hold out as he was loving being on my Z-Flex longboard. He wasn’t walking yet so we initially set it up to just to have a look at it but he quickly crawled over and started trying to get on it so we began familiarising him with the board by sitting him on it and pushing him up and down the hall way at home. Just before he turned 8mths old he began trying to pull himself up using the handle so we stood him on the board for the first time and he hasn’t wanted to get off since. Bankz is a pretty quick learn and I believe it was all the time on his Ookkie that had him up taking steps and walking by 9-10mths.
How has the Ookkie helped your little one in their development?
He’s now also a confident climber which scares the heck outta me but is also thanks to his Ookkie. His balance, endurance and core strength is absolutely amazing.
How has the Ookkie become a part of your family life and routine?
His Ookkie has definitely become apart of our daily life. Bankz refuses to go in his pram now so we take his Ookkie pretty much everywhere, I think the longest he’s ridden it was about 4ks. When we’re not going for walks using the Ookie we’re at the skatepark just having some fun. Bankz loves the ramps and rolling in, he’s ready for a new board now thanks to his Ookkie he’s been rocking on ramps and catching speed on inclines while riding the longboard since he was 10mths
